Joining Instructions (for beginners)
This page needs to be updated - certain details may be incorrect following changes in the joining procedure and in the appearance of the Wikidot main page (sorry). Please keep a note of anything that is wrong and edit this page to improve it.
If you aren't used to doing this kind of thing don't worry because it isn't complicated - but there are lots of little things that can seem confusing (you may not know what a 'screen name' is for instance, or why you are being asked if you are human).
Note that these notes only make the process look long and complicated because they explain everything. You might like to open this page in a separate window or print it to refer to as you join.

| … and you will be taken to the main Wikidot website, which looks something like this: |  |
Complete the details on this page. First you are asked for a 'screen name'. Choose whatever name you like. This is the name which will appear if you make edits or forum posts.
Next, you will be asked for an email address and password. These are the details you will need to remember to log in next time. Don't use the joining password at this stage - make up your own, and write it down somewhere.
The 'are you a human' question just wants you to type the code in (don't worry about why if you don't understand - it's just about preventing unwanted automatic advertising).
The next page should ask for a verification code. This will have been sent to you by email as soon as you completed the previous questions.
You should then see a 'congratulations' page - which means you've got as far as joining 'Wikidot' (but not this site yet). Read the page if you like, and click 'close message'.
You should now be back on the page "Join This Site". The final stage is to put the joining password (it's the word 'lochrinbasin' not your own private password) into the box where you are asked for it.
You should see another 'congratulations' message, and then return once again to the "Join This Site" page yet again. Don't worry about the red writing in the box saying you cannot apply - it just appears because you are already a member.
