76R15_0373-15b.jpg This is the first of two photographs I took of the derelict Union Canal in Edinburgh on 28 August 1976. It shows the view west from Yeaman Place bridge with the tenements of Watson Crescent on the right and Temple Park Crescent on the left.

76R16_0373-16_Fb.jpg The second photograph of the derelict Union Canal in Edinburgh on 28 August 1976. This is the view east from Yeaman Place bridge towards Viewforth. I'm not sure what works the chimney belonged to but an Edinburgh Commercial Directory of the period might provide a clue under Yeaman Lane. There was a large rubber works in the Viewforth area (North British Rubber Co, later part of Dunlop or Uniroyal, but whether it came this far along I'm not sure. There was a notice at Harrison Park East discouraging people walking further into Edinburgh because the wide towpath either side of the Leamington Bridge was used as a car park for the rubber works and the brewery and was fenced and gated off. The nearer buildings on the right have now been replaced by the flats in Dorset Place, fronting on to the canal.
