| If you are allowed to edit pages in this site (which you probably will be), simply click on edit button at the bottom of the page which you want to edit. This will open an editor for that page. | ![]() |
NOTE: You may wish to join the site before editing (although this is not necessary). If you do your user-name will be associated with your contribution (rather than an IP address).
If clicking 'edit' does not work, and you are using a less common or older web browser, you might like to check this page for help.
If you type plain text into the editor it appears as plain text on the page (after you save your work using the button which will have appeared at the bottom of the editor).
| You will also see a toolbar pallette with options for changing the appearance of text, inserting images, and so on. | ![]() |
You will see that this toolbar inserts symbols into your text to tell the page how to display.
For instance, clicking the button 'H1' will insert text with a '+' symbol in front of it. Or you can simply type a plus.
+ Heading
will lead to the word heading being displayed as a heading
Heading
Although creating and editing pages is easy the use of these symbols can take some getting used to. And there are a lot more options available to enable a page to look as you wish it to. There are documentation pages available which provide detail on each aspect (headings, images, tables, etc), and other help available through the help link at the very bottom of every page.
Images
There are two stages to including an image on a page. The first stage is to upload an image file to the page you want to include it on (click the link 'files' at the bottom of that page). The second is to edit the page code and to insert the code
image imagename
at the appropriate place.
| It is also possible to include images, videos and audio clips from other sites such as Flickr and Youtube. When editing, look for the appropriate editing-toolbar buttons which make these processes pretty simple. | ![]() |
An easy way to create a new page
One simple trick to create a link to a new page and edit it is as follows:
Go to the page you wish to link to the new one. Edit this, adding a link like this: [new page name] or [ text to display]. Save this page. Click the new link (which should have a different colour because the page does not exist). You will be told that the page does not exist and be given the opportunity to create it.
